Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, a 17-year-old student from Yobe State, Nigeria, has been declared the World Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.

Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Nafisa triumphed over more than 20,000 participants from 69 countries, marking a historic achievement that has catapulted her into the global academic spotlight and brought immense pride to Nigeria.

The TeenEagle competition is an internationally renowned contest that assesses English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills. It attracts secondary school students from both English-speaking and non-English-speaking nations.

Nafisa’s outstanding performance was confirmed in a statement by her family’s head, Hassan Salifu, who credited her success to “dedication, discipline, and the enabling support of the Yobe State Government.”

“Our daughter’s global success would not have been possible without the visionary support for education by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, whose efforts have brought international honour to our state and nation,” Salifu said, as quoted by Leadership Newspaper.

He further emphasized the significance of Nafisa’s win, noting that she outperformed students from countries where English is a native language a feat that reflects her brilliance, preparation, and resilience.

Celebrations have erupted in Yobe State and beyond, with widespread praise for Nafisa’s achievement. Her family expressed gratitude to Governor Buni and the teachers at NTIC for their guidance and role in shaping her academic journey.

“Nafisa’s success is a testament to the power of educational investment. Governor Buni’s commitment has not only transformed schools in the state but has also placed Yobe and Nigeria on the global academic map,” the family added.

Calls are now mounting across Nigeria for Nafisa to receive state and national honours, with many viewing her win as a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s untapped academic excellence.

“She has made our country proud, defeating nations where English is a native tongue. Her victory sends a strong message: with the right support, Nigerian students can compete and win on any global stage,” a proud relative added.
