₦5 Billion ‘AgroCity Doma’ Takes Off in Nasarawa: LBRBDA, Amisec Partner to Establish 1,000-Hectare Organic Sesame Value Chain

In a major boost to agricultural industrialisation in Nigeria, the Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority (LBRBDA) and Amisec Industrial Company Limited have finalised a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement to establish “AgroCity Doma,” a landmark project located within the Doma Dam Irrigation Area of Nasarawa State.

The ₦5 billion Phase One project is aimed at developing a fully integrated organic sesame value chain, which aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to the productive use of underutilised irrigation assets. The ultimate goal is to enhance food production, create mass employment, and position Nigeria as a significant player in the lucrative global organic sesame market.

Under the signed agreement, LBRBDA is set to provide 1,000 hectares of prime irrigable land along with access to water resources from the Doma Dam. In reciprocity, Amisec Industrial Company Limited will take the lead on the ₦5 billion investment, spearheading the development of infrastructure, implementation of mechanised cultivation, and overall project management.

The comprehensive project plan includes a 1,000-hectare mechanised nucleus farm, deployment of solar-powered irrigation systems for sustainable water use, and the construction of a 10 MT/hour sesame processing plant for critical value addition before export. Furthermore, the initiative incorporates an outgrower programme expected to engage over 1,000 local farmers in the area.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Managing Director of LBRBDA, Engr. Tersee Ninga, emphasised that the partnership is a practical demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the agricultural sector. The Chief Executive Officer of Amisec, Abdulmuttalib Mohammad, confirmed that the company is aiming to build an ecosystem capable of producing traceable, export-grade organic sesame products.

Once fully operational by the first quarter of 2027, the AgroCity Doma project is expected to generate impressive annual revenues of up to $7 million (approximately ₦10.8 billion) and is projected to create over 500 direct and 2,000 indirect jobs across the entire value chain.
