Police Begin Probe Over Arson and Death of Two Women, Hauwa’u Yakubu and Zahra’u Aliyu, in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has commenced a major investigation into a suspected case of arson and homicide following the tragic discovery of two deceased women, Hauwa’u Yakubu and Zahra’u Aliyu, at a residential home. The incident, which has shocked the local community, was reported today, Saturday, November 15, 2025.

The Command’s spokesperson confirmed the deployment of forensic and criminal investigation teams to the scene to unravel the mystery surrounding the deaths. The bodies of the two women were recovered from the building after the fire, which preliminary reports suggest may have been intentionally set.

The police investigation is currently focused on two primary lines of inquiry: whether the women died as a direct result of the fire, or if they were victims of a homicide before the fire was started in a possible attempt to cover up the crime.

“We have launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of Hauwa’u Yakubu and Zahra’u Aliyu,” the police spokesperson stated. “Forensic evidence is being gathered to establish the exact cause of death and the source of the fire. We assure the public that no stone will be left unturned until those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice.”

The Command has appealed to members of the public with any information related to the incident to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Kano State.
