Ekiti Government and Police Dismiss AI-Generated Viral Video Threatening Attacks on EKSU and BOUESTI

The Ekiti State Government and the State Police Command today, Thursday, November 27, 2025, moved decisively to counter a wave of panic, officially dismissing viral social media rumours and videos that alleged planned attacks on major tertiary institutions and border communities within the state.

The swift intervention follows the circulation of a specific viral video featuring an individual, allegedly a bandit, threatening to attack the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, and the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI), Ikere Ekiti.

The Special Adviser to Governor Biodun Oyebanji on Security Matters, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (retd.), confirmed during a radio programme that security agencies had thoroughly investigated the claims and found them to be “baseless.”

“We have visited the institutions mentioned in these viral messages—there is no threat,” Ogundana stated. “People must understand that these rumours are deliberately fabricated to create fear… investigations revealed that the video was artificially manipulated with the intent to cause panic.

Police Confirm AI Fabrication

Reinforcing the government’s position, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, also confirmed that the video was an AI-generated clip designed purely to mislead the public. The CP’s statement, issued yesterday, assured residents that the security architecture remains robust and effective.

In response to the false alarms, the Command has deployed additional security personnel to strategic locations, including border communities adjoining Kwara and Kogi, schools, and worship centers, to maintain constant surveillance and reassure residents of their safety.

Both the government and the police appealed to the public to disregard the fake news and cease circulating unverified information. They stressed that Ekiti remains one of the safest states in Nigeria and advised residents to carry out their daily activities without fear, only reporting suspicious activities to the nearest security agencies.
