Three Killed in Kebbi Communal Clash After Village Row; Governor Idris Sues for Peace as Police Flood Argungu to Stop Reprisals
What began as a festive Sallah celebration in Alwasa Village turned into a tragedy that has left three people dead and a community in shock. On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the Kebbi State Police Command confirmed that a misunderstanding over motorcycle “stunts” triggered a wave of communal violence between Hausa and Fulani youths in the Argungu Local Government Area.
According to local sources, the tension snapped on Monday evening when a group of youths arrived in the village on motorcycles, performing dangerous maneuvers that local residents found disrespectful. The resulting argument turned physical, leading to the stabbing of a Hausa youth. While the victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Argungu, he succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday morning. News of his death sparked an immediate “reprisal attack” on nearby settlements, claiming two more lives.
Governor Nasir Idris, who performed an on-the-spot assessment of the community today, warned that his administration has “zero tolerance” for lawlessness. “We cannot allow innocent people to suffer for offences they did not commit,” the Governor stated, promising that anyone involved in the killings would face the full weight of the law regardless of their status or tribe.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, assured the public that the “Solution” to the tension is currently being handled by a heavy security presence. “The situation is under control,” Usman said, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, has ordered a full-scale investigation to track down those who turned a celebration into a bloodbath. For now, a fragile peace has returned to Alwasa, though many families remain cautious as security patrols continue.
