Bandits Storm Sokoto Village in Midnight Raid; Many Abducted and Two Injured as Police Launch Massive Manhunt in Wurno LGA Forests

Residents of Chacho village in Wurno Local Government Area are living through a nightmare after a brutal midnight siege left their community fractured. The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed that “all hands are on deck” to rescue a yet-to-be-ascertained number of villagers who were dragged into the forest by suspected bandits during a late-night invasion on Wednesday.

The “Solution” to the rising wave of these rural attacks has become the top priority for the new Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa. According to the Command’s spokesperson, Ahmad Rufai, tactical units were mobilized immediately after receiving distress calls that the community was under fire. “The attackers struck when most people were asleep, creating total confusion. We are working around the clock to establish the exact number of those missing and ensure their safe return,” Rufai stated.

This latest attack comes at a time when the state government is attempting to “flip the script” on insecurity. Earlier this week, Governor Ahmed Aliyu met with IGP Kayode Egbetokun to demand a “Renewed Hope” strategy for the Northwest, emphasizing that the Sabon Birni forest axis remains a dangerous corridor for criminal elements. The Governor highlighted that the recent procurement of hundreds of patrol vehicles is meant to stop these “midnight sieges” before they can even begin.

For the people of Wurno, however, the fear remains high. Eyewitnesses described a scene of “pure terror” as gunmen moved from house to house, firing into the air and selecting victims to be taken away. With two residents currently battling for their lives in the hospital, the community is calling for a permanent military post to be established in the area to prevent Chacho from becoming another “ghost town” in the battle against banditry.
