First-Class Kings Rain Millions on Rotary, Urge Private Sector Tie-Ups as Tech Chiefs Declare AI Can’t Buy Good Character
Prominent traditional rulers and business leaders have praised the profound impact of global voluntary service, calling for deeper structural partnerships between the private sector, cultural institutions, and humanitarian networks to drive grassroots development.
The high-profile gathering unfolded during the elegant installation ceremony of a celebrated entrepreneur, Mrs. Bukola Olabisi Bakare, who officially stepped into office as the new District Governor for Rotary International, District 9111. The elite event served as a platform for prominent national figures to appreciate the global organization’s century-long legacy of executing life-changing community interventions using private resources.
Leading the charge of royal endorsements, the paramount ruler and Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijeshaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup (Ajimoko III), commended Rotarians for their persistent culture of personal sacrifice. To ensure the new district leadership has the immediate financial momentum needed to execute its local welfare pipeline, the monarch backed his speech with an immediate donation of ₦25 million to the club’s humanitarian treasury.
In a similar vein, the Oniru of Iruland in Lagos State, Oba Abdulwasiu Lawal (Abisogun III), emphasized that modern traditional systems have completely evolved. He noted that contemporary rulers function as essential development catalysts who actively coordinate with public and private entities to bring infrastructure and economic stability straight to their communities.
“Today’s traditional rulers are far more than just passive custodians of history and culture,” Oba Abdulwasiu Lawal stated during the event. “We bring essential continuity to governance and provide direct operational support to state frameworks. Development is vastly more successful when every layer of society is actively involved. Let us focus our energies on building bridges of collaboration instead of barriers, and I strongly urge both corporate bodies and fellow monarchs to align with Rotary to expand their social reach.”
Beyond the royal calls for corporate synergy, the installation summit featured an insightful keynote address from the former Managing Director of First Bank, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan. Addressing the audience on the rapid, ongoing integration of cutting-edge tech in modern commerce, Adeduntan analyzed the double-edged sword of digital automation.
While acknowledging that advanced computational frameworks and Artificial Intelligence (AI) offer unprecedented operational efficiency for African businesses, the financial veteran insisted that technology possesses absolute limitations. He argued that no code, algorithm, or digital framework can ever replicate or replace fundamental human virtues—such as the core integrity, transparency, and fairness championed by Rotary’s historic Four-Way Test.
With Mrs. Bakare formally taking the reins of District 9111 for her one-year tenure, the heavy financial and institutional backing received from the traditional stools sets a highly optimistic tone for the coming service year. As the club rolls out its latest sub-regional welfare roadmap, the unified call from Lagos and Osun royalty outlines a clear template for how indigenous leadership can successfully amplify global charity to lift vulnerable populations.
