Goals Galore in Abeokuta as Ikorodu City, Inter Lagos, and Abakaliki FC Claim Big Pre-Season Wins
Action intensified at the ongoing 2026 Gold Cup pre-season tournament in Abeokuta as Ikorodu City, Inter Lagos, and Abakaliki FC all registered crucial victories in their respective group encounters at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
Ikorodu City put on a commanding display to dispatch Stormers SC 2-0. Attacker Farouk Salami delivered a stellar first-half performance, opening the scoring in the 13th minute before doubling his side’s advantage ten minutes later. Stormers SC were unable to break down Ikorodu City’s defensive setup, allowing the Lagos-based side to comfortably wrap up all three points.
In another fixture, Inter Lagos maintained their solid momentum with a 2-0 triumph over Doma United. Emmanuel Niayingba broke the deadlock just before the interval in the 44th minute to give Inter Lagos a half-time lead. Yomi Bilyaminu then sealed the result with an 80th-minute strike to hand Doma United another defeat.
The most dramatic match of the round saw Abakaliki FC edge Dokkal Khairu 3-2 in a five-goal thriller. Abakaliki FC built a comfortable 3-0 cushion thanks to goals from Ekong Christian in the 23rd minute, Chinaza Okeke early in the second half, and Godwin Nwankwo in the 81st minute. Dokkal Khairu mounted a fierce late rally, reducing the gap through Shittu Olamilekan in the 85th minute and an Adeosun Dauda stoppage-time penalty, but Abakaliki FC held firm to secure the win.
Meanwhile, the final match of the day between Grassrunners FC and Sunshine Stars ended in a goalless 0-0 draw, with both sides sharing the points after failing to convert their chances.
