Army Overhauls Border Operations in Sokoto as Top Commander Visits Kebbe Over Rising Terrorist Incursions

The Nigerian Army has restructured its security framework along the Sokoto-Kebbi axis following an operational assessment visit to Kebbe Local Government Area aimed at neutralizing threats posed by the Lakurawa terrorist group.

Major General Bemgha Paul Koughna, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, visited the Forward Operating Base in Kebbe to evaluate defense readiness. The high-level military visit follows recent insurgent attacks in surrounding communities, including Ungushi, which heightened security concerns among local residents.

In response to the evolving situation, army leadership adjusted its tactical deployments to prevent terrorists from infiltrating rural settlements or establishing operational footholds in the region. The strategy focuses on bolstering patrol units and strengthening quick-response forces along the border communities.

During the tour, military commanders engaged directly with local leaders and community members to assess safety concerns firsthand. General Koughna assured residents that troops remain fully deployed, vigilant, and prepared to respond decisively to any security threats, urging the public to stay calm and continue their normal activities.
