Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has issued a passionate plea to government authorities following a bloody wave of attacks and mass abductions across North-Central Nigeria, warning that the nation is dangerously drifting into a lawless killing ground.

Reacting to recent violent strikes in Plateau, Niger, and Benue states—where dozens of villagers were slaughtered, homes burnt down, and over a hundred residents kidnapped—Obi described the deteriorating security situation as a national emergency. He questioned how innocent citizens could be repeatedly ambushed in their communities, abducted after prayers, and driven away from their livelihoods when the country is not officially at war.

The former Anambra State governor criticized the recurring pattern of reactive governance, arguing that official condolences and body counts after every tragedy are no longer acceptable. He urged security agencies and authorities at all levels to overhaul intelligence gathering and rapid-response capabilities so that security forces can intercept attackers before they strike vulnerable communities.

Reiterating that the primary constitutional duty of any government is the protection of human lives and property, Obi called for the immediate rescue of all kidnapped victims and the swift prosecution of perpetrators. He cautioned that allowing violent criminal networks to operate unchecked risks normalizing mass atrocities across the country.
