Motorists Raise Alarm as Abandoned Truck Sparks Multiple Crashes on Enugu-Onitsha Highway

Motorists and commuters traveling along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway have issued an emergency appeal to traffic authorities following a series of road crashes caused by a heavy-duty truck left abandoned on the highway for five consecutive days.

The obstruction, situated around the 9th Mile Corner axis near the ongoing construction site of the Enugu State International Motor Parts Market, has created severe gridlock and heightened danger for night and day travelers alike. Speaking on behalf of affected road users, motorist Mr. Uchenna Eze disclosed that the dangerous positioning of the broken-down vehicle directly triggered multiple crashes on Wednesday, sending several injured victims to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Frustrated commuters questioned why enforcement agencies have failed to clear the obstruction despite operating in close proximity to the hazard. Drivers expressed concern that personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) regularly maintain a road checkpoint just a short distance from the scene, yet no official steps have been taken to impound or tow the heavy vehicle off the active lane.

With traffic congestion building up daily along the vital South-East commercial corridor, road users are calling on both the FRSC leadership and the Enugu State Government to intervene immediately, clear the highway, and enforce strict towing protocols for broken-down heavy vehicles before more lives are lost.
