Spain Defeats Croatia 2-1 to Reach Nations League Quarter-Finals

Spain came from behind to defeat Croatia 2-1 in Split on Tuesday, securing their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Nations League. Mikel Merino was the star of the match, scoring both goals for Spain.

Croatia initially took the lead with a goal from Ivan Perišić in the 17th minute. However, Spain fought back in the second half. Merino equalized in the 61st minute and then scored the winning goal in the 88th minute, assisted by Martín Zubimendi.

Perišić was sent off in the 79th minute after receiving a second yellow card for a foul, reducing Croatia to 10 players. This decision was confirmed by a video review.

Despite Croatia’s efforts to maintain pressure throughout the match, Spain’s strong second half allowed them to secure the win. This victory also marked Spain’s fourth win in four matches in the tournament.

Spain now leads Group A3 with nine points, having previously beaten England and Czechia. Croatia, on the other hand, has struggled in the group, suffering heavy losses to both Spain and England.
