Kwankwasiyya Movement Calls for Calm After NDC Candidate Omission from INEC List

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has asked its members and supporters to stay calm after the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Kano State governorship candidate, Aminu Gwarzo, and his running mate, Mustapha Kwankwaso, were left off the final list of candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement released on October 11, 2026, the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Mohammed, acknowledged that the omission has caused concern among supporters. However, he urged everyone to exercise restraint and avoid speculation while the issue is being resolved through the proper channels.

The movement expressed confidence that there are administrative and legal options available to address the situation. They called on the NDC leadership to take swift action to rectify the omission within the legal timeframe.

The group emphasized that Gwarzo had registered with the NDC on time and noted that they were not aware of any legal reasons for his exclusion. They insisted that INEC should provide a clear explanation for the omission and treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

Additionally, the movement pointed out a specific section of the Electoral Act that allows a political party 14 days to notify INEC if a candidate’s name is missing. They encouraged the NDC and Gwarzo’s legal team to review this provision and take necessary steps to correct the issue.

While the Kwankwasiyya Movement is committed to following due process, they also advised their supporters against confrontation and the spread of unverified information. They stressed the importance of continuing political activities lawfully and urged INEC to clarify the situation as soon as possible.
