Troops from Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have made several arrests in Plateau State, including an alleged arms fabricator and three suspected gunrunners. These arrests took place during secret operations in Mangu and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas.
The operations were prompted by intelligence received on October 4 regarding illegal arms activities in the area. Following this, troops carried out coordinated operations from October 7 to 11, targeting the suspected criminal networks.
During these operations, the military arrested Ayuba Sunday Abot, who was accused of fabricating weapons in Heipang, Barkin Ladi. Three other suspects—Tangkat Danjuma, Kopdi Appollos, and Nyam Nzang—were also taken into custody for their alleged roles in arms trafficking.
The troops recovered several weapons, including a fabricated revolver rifle, a fabricated pistol, and parts of an AK-47. They also found 42 rounds of ammunition and some items described as metaphysical.
According to a military source, the suspects reportedly bought the ammunition from a security agent at a price of N3,000 per round. Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, a spokesperson for OPEP, confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects and recovered items have been taken for further investigation.
