Bauchi State Eliminates Broadband Charges to Boost Telecom Investments
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has announced that there will be no charges for companies to lay broadband cables across the state. This decision is intended to attract more telecommunications investments and improve internet access for residents.
The governor made this announcement on Tuesday during the launch of the Bauchi State Innovation and Startup Law 2026, coinciding with the graduation of over 100 young people trained in cybersecurity. He expressed his administration’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure and creating job opportunities for the youth.
Mohammed stated, “We are sending a clear message to telecommunications companies and internet service providers: come to Bauchi, serve our communities at zero cost and connect our people to the world.” He emphasized the importance of technology in driving development and improving public services and business operations.
In addition to the removal of broadband charges, the governor highlighted efforts to improve information and communication technology infrastructure and expand digital skills among the youth. He congratulated the graduates, who completed a six-month training program and earned CompTIA Security+ certifications, which are recognized in the tech industry.
The governor also mentioned a partnership with the cybersecurity organization Protexxa, which aims to help at least 80% of the graduates find jobs. He encouraged the graduates to maintain professional ethics and continue learning, as cybersecurity skills are increasingly important in today’s digital landscape.
