Ohanaeze Youths Demand Change of INEC Commissioner Over Allegations

The Ohanaeze Youth Forum (OYF) is asking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to move its National Commissioner for Anambra, Imo, and Ebonyi states, Dr. Ken Nnamdi Ukeagu. This request comes after accusations of him being biased.

According to the group, Ukeagu has allegedly shown favoritism by providing electoral advice to opposition parties and candidates in Anambra and Imo states. They claim he has leaked important INEC documents to these parties, which could harm the fairness expected from his position.

In a statement from their Secretary-General, Comrade Agwu-Awah Malachy, the forum expressed concern that Ukeagu’s actions could damage public trust in the electoral process, especially with the 2027 general elections approaching.

The group believes that if the allegations are true, it could lead to unfair competition among political parties and question the credibility of election results. They are urging INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, to reassign Ukeagu while a thorough investigation is conducted.

OYF plans to submit a formal complaint to INEC, including what they describe as evidence to support their claims. They also want the Presidency, National Assembly, and Council of State to take the matter seriously to help maintain public confidence in electoral institutions.

The forum is calling on civil society organizations, the media, and security agencies to help ensure the integrity of the upcoming elections. They intend to continue addressing their concerns through peaceful and lawful means.

Ukeagu has not publicly responded to these allegations.
