Portugal to Host Special Farewell for Cristiano Ronaldo After Retirement

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has announced plans for a special farewell event for Cristiano Ronaldo after he announced his retirement from international football. The FPF expressed gratitude for Ronaldo’s contributions to the national team, emphasizing his lasting impact on Portuguese football.

Ronaldo, who is 41 years old, ends his international career as Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer, with 146 goals in 234 matches. He is also recognized as the highest goalscorer in men’s international football history. His career highlights include leading Portugal to their first European Championship title in 2016 and winning the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025.

The FPF’s tribute will celebrate Ronaldo’s remarkable achievements and his role in inspiring future generations of footballers and fans. The federation stated, “This will always be your home,” reinforcing that Ronaldo will always be welcomed back in Portugal.

Although Ronaldo will no longer play for the national team, he is expected to continue his professional career with Al-Nassr, a club in Saudi Arabia. He is also focused on reaching 1,000 official career goals, having scored 985 so far.

This farewell event will mark the end of an extraordinary chapter that began with Ronaldo’s senior debut in 2003, highlighting his significant place in the history of Portuguese sports.
