National Boundary Commission Embraces Drone Technology to Enhance Border Management

The National Boundary Commission (NBC) has announced the integration of drone technology into its operations to bolster the management and security of Nigeria’s borders. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize boundary delineation and monitoring processes across the country.

Director-General Adamu Adaji highlighted the transition from traditional analog methods to advanced digital systems, including satellite imaging and aerial mapping. He emphasized that drones enable the commission to access and assess remote and challenging terrains that were previously difficult to monitor effectively.

“With the support of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, we’ve made significant strides in adopting modern technology for boundary management,” Adaji stated. “Drones and other digital tools provide real-time data, enhancing our ability to define and secure Nigeria’s boundaries efficiently.”

The NBC’s Research and Policy Analysis Department plays a crucial role in this technological advancement, offering data-driven insights to support the delineation of internal and international boundaries, including maritime zones. The commission plans to leverage these technologies further under the “Renewed Hope Agenda” to bring tangible benefits to border communities.

This move aligns with Nigeria’s broader efforts to enhance national security and promote peaceful coexistence among neighboring states through improved boundary management.
