Shettima, Atiku, and Dignitaries Attend Prof. Jibril Aminu’s Funeral in Abuja

Vice President Kashim Shettima led a distinguished group of dignitaries at the funeral prayers (Jana’iza) of Professor Jibril Aminu, held at the National Mosque in Abuja on Thursday, June 5. The late elder statesman, who passed away at the age of 85, was a renowned cardiologist, former Minister of Education and Petroleum, and ex-President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Among the notable attendees were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, former Secretary to the Federal Government Yayale Ahmed, former Governors Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) and Danjuma Goje (Gombe), former Chief of Army Staff General Tukur Buratai, and former Ministers Tahir Mamman (Education) and Aliyu Idi Hong (Health).

Vice President Shettima described Professor Aminu as an “intellectual giant” whose contributions to Nigeria’s development were immeasurable. He noted that Aminu’s legacy as a scholar, administrator, and public servant would continue to inspire future generations.

Following the funeral prayers in Abuja, Professor Aminu’s remains were transported to his hometown of Song in Adamawa State, where he was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

The funeral ceremony was a testament to the profound impact Professor Jibril Aminu had on Nigeria’s academic, political, and diplomatic spheres.
