Lagos Governor Pledges Firm Commitment to Youth Development

The Lagos State Government has restated its firm commitment to empowering the state’s youth population, describing them as the “backbone of Lagos’ prosperity.” This pledge was underscored by a series of ongoing initiatives aimed at tackling youth unemployment, curbing social vices, and fostering a generation of skilled and productive citizens.

Speaking at a recent event, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, urged young people to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the administration. He highlighted several key programs, including the state’s Internship Placement Programme, which recently deployed 1,000 graduates to over 200 partner companies.

The government’s strategy is multi-faceted. The Eko Digital Training initiative offers free courses on digital and entrepreneurial skills to equip youths for the modern economy. In a bid to channel youthful energy into productive outlets, the administration also launched the “Lagos Street Soccer Star Oshodi 2025,” a grassroots sports initiative designed to provide at-risk youth with a positive alternative to idleness and crime.

These interventions are all part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Development Agenda, which places a high priority on human capital development. The government believes that by providing the right skills, resources, and platforms, it can unlock the full potential of its youth and secure a more prosperous future for the entire state.
