Alaafin Breaks Silence on Alleged Meeting With Makinde; Rubbishes Rumors of ‘Under-Table’ Talk on Monarch Council Leadership!

The palace of the Alaafin of Oyo has come out guns blazing to shut down rumors of a “secret pact” between the monarch and Governor Seyi Makinde. The rumors, which had been spreading like wildfire in Oyo State, claimed the two leaders met to discuss a major change in who heads the state’s powerful Council of Obas and Chiefs.

In a move to set the record straight, the Alaafin made it clear that no such meeting ever happened. The rotation of the council’s chairmanship is a “hot-button” issue in Oyo politics, as it involves the most powerful traditional rulers in the state, including the Alaafin, the Olubadan, and the Soun of Ogbomoso.

“There was no meeting, and there is no secret agreement,” the palace statement read. The monarch’s team expressed disappointment that “mischief-makers” are trying to use the Alaafin’s name to stir up trouble between the traditional rulers and the state government.

While the Governor and the Alaafin are known to work together for the peace of the state, the palace insists that matters regarding traditional leadership are governed by long-standing customs and laws, not just casual meetings.

For now, the status quo remains, and the Alaafin has urged the people of Oyo State to ignore the “fake news” and focus on the development of the state.
