Baba Ijesha Drops Bombshell New Song After Prison Release, Insisting 2021 Sexual Assault Scandal Was a ‘Set-Up’ by Nollywood Rivals

Less than four months after walking out of the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison, controversial actor Olanrewaju James, better known as Baba Ijesha, is already stirring the pot of public opinion. In a newly released track that is quickly making the rounds on social media, the actor has “flipped the script” on his 2022 conviction, using music to double down on his claim that he was the victim of a high-level conspiracy.

The song, which marks his first major creative output since his release in November 2025, features lyrics that describe the infamous CCTV video that led to his downfall as a “stage-managed performance.” Baba Ijesha suggests in the track that he was invited to a house under the guise of rehearsing a script, only to be ambushed by cameras and a “pre-written” scandal. “They wanted to kill the star, so they wrote a tragedy,” one translated line from the song declares, pointing fingers at unnamed colleagues in the Yoruba film industry.

However, the “State of Harmony” the actor is trying to create with his fans through music is clashing with the cold hard facts of the Lagos State justice system. Despite the actor’s musical insistence on his innocence, the Lagos State Ministry of Justice recently issued a scathing “fact-check” on his freedom. Attorney General Lawal Pedro, SAN, clarified that Baba Ijesha’s release was purely the result of time served not an exoneration.

While the Court of Appeal did drop some older charges, it firmly upheld his conviction for the 2021 assault, a decision the Supreme Court refused to overturn just weeks before his release. As the song climbs the charts of controversy, legal experts warn that the actor’s attempt to “re-write history” in the studio doesn’t change his status as a convicted offender in the eyes of the law. For now, Baba Ijesha seems determined to play the role of the “persecuted veteran,” even as the shadow of the 2021 trial continues to loom over his comeback attempt.
