Benue Govt Demolishes Newly Inaugurated Tinubu Support Office, Citing Road Project and ‘Illegal Structures’

A new wave of political tension has flared in Benue State following the demolition of a section of the office belonging to the Ahmed Bola Tinubu Support Group 2027 in Makurdi today, Thursday, November 6, 2025. The controversial exercise, carried out by the Benue State Urban Development Board, has been officially attributed to a major infrastructure project, though political commentators suggest underlying party rivalries are at play.

The demolition affected the perimeter fence and gate of the building located along the Wurukum–Yaikyor–Apir–Ikpayongo axis of the state capital.

Mr. Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, issued a statement affirming that the action was not politically motivated but part of the government’s ongoing demolition exercise to clear the path for the dualization of the Makurdi/Enugu Road, a project being undertaken in collaboration with the Federal Government.

Kula explained that a thorough assessment determined which structures fell on the government’s right-of-way. “Owners of legitimate buildings with proper approvals have been duly compensated,” he asserted. “However, those whose properties lacked approval or were illegally erected on government right-of-way were duly notified and directed to vacate.”

Group Alleges Political Blindside

The demolition has sparked immediate outrage from the leadership of the support group. Dr. Aker Kpev, Director General of the Ahmed Bola Tinubu Support Group 2027, told newsmen that the incident was reported to relevant authorities and expressed deep suspicion over the timing.

“The office was only inaugurated on October 31st, 2025,” Dr. Kpev lamented. “We had not received any official notices from the board before this demolition was carried out.”

While the Benue government maintains the exercise is non-discriminatory and essential for road integrity, the action is viewed by many as a projection of the deepening crisis within the Benue State APC chapter. Governor Alia’s administration has been openly at loggerheads with the faction loyal to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, a tension that observers believe provides the true context for the swift demolition.
