DSS Arrests Leader of Mahmuda Terrorist Group, Sparks Jubilation

In a significant victory against insecurity, the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested the leader of a newly emerged terror group, Abubakar Abba Mahmuda. The arrest of the mastermind, who has been a source of fear for communities in Kwara and Niger states, has been met with widespread celebration.

Mahmuda, whose group is also known as the “Mallam Group,” is believed to be a breakaway faction of Boko Haram with alleged cross-border links. His terror cell has been operating from within the Kainji Lake National Park, from where it has carried out a series of attacks on rural villages, engaging in armed robbery and kidnappings for ransom.

According to sources, the arrest was the result of a covert operation by DSS operatives who had been trailing the terrorist leader. Mahmuda was reportedly captured while visiting one of his witchdoctors, an event that has reportedly thrown his entire network of fighters into disarray.

Villagers in affected communities, particularly in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, have expressed immense relief and hope that the arrest will bring an end to the years of terror they have endured. They have praised the security agencies for their decisive action.

The arrest of Mahmuda marks a crucial development in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in Nigeria’s north-central region. The Mahmuda group had gained notoriety for its deadly attacks, including an incident in April where four Fulani men and a local guard were killed in a Kwara market. The DSS has not yet issued a formal statement on the arrest, but security experts believe this operation will severely weaken the group’s ability to operate and recruit new members in the region.
