Enugu Residents to Endure 10-Day Power Outage Starting Wednesday Due to TCN Repairs

Residents of the Enugu metropolis are set to experience a 10-day power outage as MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has announced a significant supply interruption to allow for major maintenance work on the transmission network.

The planned power cut, announced yesterday, Monday, October 20, by MEDL’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, and run through Thursday, October 31, 2025. The outages will be implemented daily between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Mr. Ezeh stated that the interruption is a necessary exercise to support the ongoing rehabilitation and reinforcement projects being undertaken by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at its New Haven Station. He added that the work is ultimately aimed at enhancing power reliability and improving the overall service quality across the city.

The development will affect several key 33KV feeders, including Kingsway Line 1 & 2, Emene Industrial Line 1 & 2, Thinkers Corner, Trans-Ekulu, Ugwuogo, and Ituku Ozalla. Consequently, a vast number of customers across multiple districts will be impacted, with specific lines undergoing maintenance on different days during the 10-day period.

Areas that will experience the supply interruptions include, but are not limited to, Emene Industrial Layout, Abakpa Nike, Trans-Ekulu, Thinkers Corner, 9th Mile, Shoprite, Golf Estate, Zoo Estate, Okpara Avenue, Kingsway Road, Abakaliki Road, CBN Quarters, Ngwo, Coal Camp, Ologo Quarters, Uwani, Asata, and surrounding communities.

MEDL management expressed regret for the inconvenience the scheduled blackout would cause customers and appealed for their understanding, emphasizing the long-term benefits of the TCN’s reinforcement project.
