Fayose REJECTS Tinubu Appointment Offer, Citing Desire to Focus on ‘Personal Life’ After Years of Service

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, a prominent but controversial figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has publicly disclosed that he turned down an offer of appointment from President Bola Tinubu, choosing instead to focus on his personal affairs after a long career in public service.

Fayose made the revelation on Wednesday during a live interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. Despite his consistent public support for President Tinubu a stance that has often caused friction with his own party—Fayose categorically stated he has no interest in serving in the current administration.

Recounting the interaction, the former Governor stated: “Asiwaju asked me, ‘What would we give you?’ I said, ‘Nothing, sir.’ At 65, I’d rather be at home, being more responsible, doing other things that I need to do. I’ve served well. Two-time governor, I’ve done well. Tomorrow will hold itself.”

He emphasized that while he maintains a “long-standing personal relationship” with President Tinubu, his support for the President was a matter of principle and friendship, not a transactional play for a political post. “I’ve not been with APC, but I’ve been Asiwaju’s friend and brother for a long time. That is the truth,” Fayose clarified, stressing that he has no intention of joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In the same interview, the outspoken politician weighed in on the state of the opposition, delivering a devastating assessment of his own party. Fayose described the PDP as “dead” and hinted at more impending defections of governors. He then positioned the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as the only opposition figure who currently commands meaningful national attention.

Fayose’s rejection reinforces his long-held public position that he is contented with his achievements and is not seeking a position under the current government, despite his influential support for the President during the 2023 general elections.
