FG Salutes Super Eagles for Grabbing AFCON Bronze; Says ‘You Made Us Proud Despite the Heartbreak!’

The Federal Government has officially rolled out the drums to celebrate the Super Eagles following their third-place victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). In a congratulatory message that has cheered up fans across the nation, the government hailed the team for their “never-say-die” attitude in clinching the bronze medal.

Coming off a painful semi-final loss that shattered dreams of a fourth continental title, the Super Eagles bounced back in the third-place play-off to ensure they finished on the podium. The Presidency, in a statement released today, noted that while the gold was the target, winning bronze is a significant achievement that keeps Nigeria among the “Big Three” of African football.

“The Super Eagles have shown that even when things don’t go perfectly, they have the heart to fight for the pride of the nation,” the Minister of Sports said. “Securing the bronze medal is a testament to the talent and dedication of this squad. Nigeria is proud of you!”

The government also used the opportunity to urge the team not to lose focus. With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers just around the corner, the FG promised continued support to ensure the team builds on this momentum.

Across the country, football enthusiasts are breathing a sigh of relief. While it wasn’t the trophy everyone wanted, the sight of the Nigerian flag being raised during the medal ceremony has brought a sense of accomplishment to a football-loving nation.
