FIFA Confirms October 17 Kick-Off for 2026 U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco; 24 Teams to Battle for Glory

Football fans around the world now have a date to circle on their calendars. FIFA officially announced on Thursday, March 19, 2026, that the next U-17 Women’s World Cup will be held in Morocco from October 17 to November 7, 2026. This announcement comes as part of FIFA’s new plan to hold the youth tournament every single year to give more girls the chance to play at the highest level.

Morocco is becoming the “home of youth football,” as they are currently in the middle of a five-year run as hosts. Last year, the tournament was a massive success, ending with North Korea lifting the trophy. FIFA officials said they chose to keep the tournament in Morocco because of the country’s world-class stadiums and their passion for the women’s game.

For Nigeria, the pressure is on. The national U-17 team, the Flamingos, had a tough exit in the Round of 16 last year and will be looking to “flip the script” in 2026. To get to Morocco, they must first face the best teams in Africa during the qualifying matches scheduled between April and July.

With five slots now available for African nations (including the hosts), there is more hope than ever for teams like Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa to make it to the big stage. As the countdown begins, the world is waiting to see if a new champion will rise or if the dominant North Koreans will hold onto their crown.
