Idris Baba Resumes as New Yobe FRSC Boss; Commander Vows to Clear ‘Death Trap’ Obstructions and Boost Highway Visibility
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Yobe State has “flipped the script” on its leadership, welcoming a seasoned veteran to lead the charge against road accidents. Corps Commander Idris Baba officially took the reins of the Yobe Sector Command in Damaturu. The “Solution” to the state’s traffic challenges, according to the Corps, is Baba’s “vast experience” in motor vehicle administration and his deep understanding of the local terrain, being an indigene of Potiskum.
The “Tsunami” of postings approved by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed saw the former commander, Andrew Longkam, moving to Kaduna to handle fresh challenges. In his hand-over ceremony, the new boss, Idris Baba, wasted no time in setting a “Renewed Hope” agenda for the state’s commuters. He emphasized that his tenure would not be about “sitting in the office” but about active field operations and “tinkering” with existing safety strategies to ensure that every traveler reaches their destination safely.
“Visibility is our priority,” Baba told officers during his inaugural parade. “We are going to be more present on the highways, and we will work hand-in-hand with transport unions and security agencies to ensure discipline.” This “Drill or Drop” approach to road safety comes at a critical time as the command prepares for the post-Easter travel rush. Baba also signaled a new focus on “digital documentation,” promising that vehicle registration and licensing in Yobe would become faster and more transparent under his watch.
As the new commander settles into his office at the State Secretariat, residents are hopeful that having a local at the helm will lead to better communication between the Corps and the community. With a promise to prioritize “prompt clearance of road obstructions,” Idris Baba is making it clear: the days of broken-down trucks sitting on Yobe’s major roads for weeks are officially numbered.
