Is Nigeria Headed for One-Party Rule? Ganduje Thinks So as Kebbi Senators Join APC

Ganduje Hails One-Party Future as Three Kebbi Senators Defect to APC

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has voiced support for the idea of a one-party system in Nigeria, following the defection of three senators from Kebbi State to the ruling party.

The senators; Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba, formerly of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were officially welcomed into the APC fold during a ceremony held at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

Ganduje, speaking at the event, described the defections as a sign of growing national confidence in the APC and a step closer to a “politically unified Nigeria.”

“We are seeing history unfold. With this kind of momentum, we are steadily moving toward a one-party system where the APC stands as the voice of progress, unity, and development,” he said.

The APC chairman’s remarks have sparked fresh debate on the health of Nigeria’s multi-party democracy, with critics warning that the collapse of opposition voices could undermine democratic accountability.

However, Ganduje dismissed such concerns, stating that “the people will always gravitate toward good governance,” and that the APC has proven itself as a reliable platform for national development.

The three senators cited internal crises in the PDP and their desire to align with the federal government’s development agenda as reasons for their defection.

Their move bolsters the APC’s numerical strength in the National Assembly, giving the party greater leverage in legislative decision-making.

Political analysts say the defection could signal more realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially in the northern states where the APC maintains significant influence.

As Nigeria’s political landscape continues to shift, observers are watching closely to see whether Ganduje’s vision of a dominant party system will gain wider traction or provoke greater resistance.
