The Governor of Katsina State, Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, has publicly congratulated Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, on his recent appointment as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The Governor hailed the appointment as a historic milestone for the North Central region and a clear commitment by the Federal Government to strengthen democratic institutions.

In a statement released on Thursday, Governor Radda described Prof. Amupitan’s elevation to the pinnacle of Nigeria’s electoral management body as a “well-deserved recognition” of his decades-long dedication to the rule of law, good governance, and professional integrity.

The Governor noted that Amupitan, a distinguished Professor of Law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from Kogi State, is the first person from the North Central zone to hold the chairmanship of INEC, following the exit of Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

“Professor Amupitan’s vast experience in academic leadership, corporate governance, and public administration, are qualities essential for guiding the nation’s electoral process,” Governor Radda stated. “His professional trajectory gives us immense confidence that he will approach this national assignment with the impartiality and intellectual depth required to enhance the credibility and transparency of our elections.”

The Katsina State Governor further expressed his belief that the new INEC Chairman would usher in a wave of innovation and renewed confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system. Governor Radda concluded by assuring Prof. Amupitan of the support and goodwill of the Government and people of Katsina State, urging him to serve the nation with unwavering fairness, courage, and patriotism.
