Labour Party Candidate George Moghalu Rejects Anambra Poll Results, Citing Vote-Buying and Widespread Underage Voting
The controversy surrounding the integrity of the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship Election escalated today, Sunday, November 9, 2025, after the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Chief Dr. George Moghalu, officially rejected the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Moghalu, in a briefing with journalists, declared the outcome unacceptable, citing widespread electoral irregularities that, in his view, fundamentally undermined the credibility of the entire process.
The Labour Party candidate specifically leveled two damaging allegations against the conduct of the election: widespread vote-buying and underage voting.
“While I initially commended the peaceful atmosphere at some polling units yesterday, the overall process, as we monitored the collation, was heavily monetized. When an election is determined not by choice or manifesto, but by massive financial inducement, it can no longer be deemed free or fair,” Moghalu stated.
He further alleged that the LP has gathered concrete evidence of underage persons being allowed to cast votes in several wards across the state, a practice that constitutes a severe breach of the Nigerian Electoral Act.
Commitment to Legal Redress
Moghalu’s rejection of the result positions the Labour Party for a definite challenge to the election’s outcome. He emphasized that the party’s legal experts are now working diligently to compile all the evidence related to the documented irregularities, which he claimed are substantial.
“We have a mandate to ensure that every valid vote counts and that the democratic wishes of the people are not subverted by illegal means like vote-buying and underage voting,” Moghalu stressed. “We will pursue every lawful means available to us to seek redress and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.”
Moghalu’s announcement makes the Anambra governorship election the subject of intense scrutiny and likely electoral tribunal action, coming on the heels of similar rejection and complaints about vote-buying raised by the ADC candidate, John Chuma-Nwosu.
