Lagos Enrolls 130,000 Households for Federal Government’s ₦75,000 Cash Transfer Program
The Lagos State Government has announced the successful enrollment of over 130,000 households into the Federal Government’s ₦75,000 Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) initiative, designed to provide direct financial support to vulnerable Nigerians amid prevailing economic challenges.
The program, which is part of a broader national social investment plan, targets low-income households with a total disbursement of ₦75,000 per beneficiary—₦25,000 monthly for three months. The initiative aims to cushion the economic impact of fuel subsidy removal and inflation, particularly on the most affected populations.
During a media briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ope George, revealed that the enrolled beneficiaries were selected from the Lagos State Social Register (LASSR), which itself forms a verified component of the National Social Register (NSR). According to him, this comprehensive effort involves linking National Identification Numbers (NINs) with social data to ensure transparency, accuracy, and inclusion in the disbursement process.
“The integration exercise began on April 9, 2025, and has so far been implemented across all 57 local government areas and local council development areas in Lagos,” George explained. “We now have over 688,000 household heads and more than 2.6 million individuals captured in our state register, with over 130,000 now integrated for the cash transfer program.”
Local councils such as Ikorodu, Alimosho, and Mushin recorded the highest number of linked households. Officials noted that special attention was given to ensuring that participants are genuinely in need, using parameters such as income status, family size, and access to basic services.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Olayinka Ojo, emphasized that community engagement and grassroots verification were central to the process. “We are working to eliminate duplication and ensure that every Naira goes to those who need it most,” she said. She also urged residents to cooperate with field officers and promptly provide required identification to fast-track payment processing.
The Lagos enrollment aligns with the broader federal objective to use digital identity and data-driven tools to make social interventions more effective and accountable. The Conditional Cash Transfer is one of several palliative strategies initiated by the Tinubu-led administration in response to ongoing cost-of-living concerns.
Beneficiaries of the program are expected to start receiving their payments in the coming weeks, with Lagos joining several other states in this national rollout.
