Lagos Lawmaker Foluke Osafile Dumps Labour Party to Join the Rising ADC Wave

The political landscape in Lagos has taken another dramatic turn as Mrs. Foluke Osafile, the lawmaker representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency-01, officially resigned from the Labour Party (LP) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Osafile, who also heads the House Committee on Wealth Creation, confirmed her exit this Saturday, making her the latest high-profile figure to leave the “Obidient” camp. For many, the move isn’t a total shock, given the recent trend of top-tier politicians flocking to the ADC as the “new home” for the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on her decision, Osafile emphasized that her loyalty remains with the people who voted her into office. “This step is taken to serve your interests better and secure a brighter future for our constituency,” she told reporters. She pledged to work closely with ADC leadership to ensure that the voices of ordinary Nigerians in her district are not just heard, but respected.

Osafile is no stranger to political drama. After her victory in 2023, she faced an intense legal challenge from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Although she initially lost her seat at the tribunal level, she fought back at the Court of Appeal and won, cementing her place as a resilient voice in the Lagos Assembly.

Her defection marks a significant blow to the Labour Party in Lagos, which has been struggling with internal crises and a mass exodus of members following Peter Obi’s own high-profile switch to the ADC late last year. As Osafile prepares to formally announce her move on the Assembly floor, political analysts are watching closely to see who might be next to jump ship.

For the people of Amuwo-Odofin, the party logo may have changed, but their representative insists the mission wealth creation and effective governance remains exactly the same.
