Nasarawa Stands Still for Senator Akwashiki’s Final Journey; SDP Leaders Grieve Over ‘Voice of the Masses’!

It was a day of deep sorrow and reflection as the people of Nasarawa State said their final goodbyes to Senator Godiya Akwashiki. The atmosphere in his hometown was heavy as the lawmaker, known for his “man of the people” style of politics, was committed to mother earth.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) turned out in full force to honor one of their brightest stars. From the national chairman to state governors and fellow lawmakers, the message was the same: Akwashiki was a political “bridge builder” who fought for his people until his very last breath.

“We haven’t just lost a senator; we’ve lost a brother and a champion for the poor,” one SDP leader said while fighting back tears. Throughout the ceremony, speakers talked about how he turned Nasarawa North into a stronghold for the SDP and how he constantly used his seat in the Senate to bring “dividends of democracy” back home.

Thousands of constituents lined the streets, many waving the SDP flag as a sign of respect for the man who they say never forgot his roots despite his high position in Abuja. His burial marks the end of an era in Nasarawa politics, leaving behind a legacy of service that many say will be very hard to replicate.

As the final prayers were said, the call from the leadership was for the party to remain united to honor his memory, ensuring that the dreams he had for a “New Nasarawa” do not die with him.
