Nigerian professionals in Egypt build centre in OAU to boost agriculture, create jobs

Nigerian Professionals in Egypt Build High-Tech ‘BOLD’ Agricultural Centre at OAU to Modernize Farming and Create Jobs

In a significant move to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial application, the Association of Nigerian Professionals in Egypt (APNEG) has unveiled a state-of-the-art agricultural development hub at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. The facility, commissioned on Thursday, March 12, 2026, is set to become a nerve center for modernizing Nigeria’s farming sector and equipping the next generation of “agripreneurs.”

The new facility, christened the Benedict Oramah Learning and Development (BOLD) Centre, is a direct investment from Nigerians in the diaspora who are eager to replicate Egypt’s successful agricultural models in their home country. Prof. Benedict Oramah, the Afreximbank President whose name the center bears, noted during the launch that the initiative is born out of a “Nigeria First” commitment to youth empowerment. By integrating ICT tools into agricultural economics, the BOLD Centre will allow OAU students to collaborate in real-time with international experts and access global market data.

“This isn’t just a building; it’s a bridge to a new era of food security,” Oramah stated. The center aims to “flip the script” on the perception of agriculture as a “toil-heavy” occupation, instead presenting it as a technology-driven career path. OAU Pro-Chancellor Hon. Adejare Bello hailed the intervention, stating that the university’s massive cultivable land is now matched with the high-tech infrastructure needed to produce the talent required for a unified African market under the AfCFTA.

The BOLD Centre is expected to act as a catalyst for local employment, providing a “State of Harmony” where students can transform their classroom theories into commercially viable agricultural startups. As the first batch of researchers moves into the facility this month, the message to the Great Ife community is clear: with the right tools and diaspora support, the future of Nigerian wealth is firmly rooted in the soil.
