Osun Amotekun Taps Public to Arrest Suspected Criminals in State

The Osun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, has announced a series of major arrests, including a suspected goat thief and several others involved in separate criminal acts. The arrests highlight the ongoing efforts of the local security outfit to combat crime with the cooperation of vigilant community members.

According to a statement from the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Abass, a 56-year-old ex-convict, Ayo Akinpelu, was apprehended for allegedly stealing goats. The suspect, a native of Ondo, was intercepted by residents of Ipetu-Ijesa who noticed suspicious activity around his Lexus SUV. Upon inspection, they discovered two goats concealed inside the vehicle. During interrogation, Akinpelu reportedly confessed to having been involved in goat theft for more than seven years, admitting to using the stolen animals to prepare pepper soup for his beer parlour customers in Ondo.

In a separate operation, Amotekun operatives also arrested three men on charges of defiling minors. The accused were apprehended in different parts of the state following complaints from residents. Additionally, three other men were arrested for burglary after they were caught attempting to steal from shops at the popular Atakumosa Market. Stolen items, including electronics, beverages, and household utensils, were recovered from their hideout.

The Osun Amotekun Commander, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, praised the public for its cooperation and assured residents that all suspects would be prosecuted. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, as community support is essential to nipping crime in the bud.
