PDP Convention to Hold in Ibadan This Weekend, Adamawa Governor Fintiri Pledges Fair and Transparent Election of New NWC
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that all arrangements are finalized for its long-awaited 2025 Elective National Convention, which is scheduled to hold this weekend, November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The confirmation and assurance of readiness were reaffirmed by the Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC), Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State. Governor Fintiri, who led members of the committee on a final inspection visit, commended the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, for its commitment to hosting the landmark event.
The Ibadan convention is deemed a critical turning point for the party, which is seeking to solidify its structures and project unity ahead of the 2027 general elections. The primary objective of the gathering is to elect a new set of National Working Committee (NWC) members who will be tasked with providing effective leadership for the opposition.
Focus on Unity and Transparency
Speaking on the preparations, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary noted that the party has held extensive consultations across the six geopolitical zones and has constituted 15 subcommittees to ensure a seamless, credible, and transparent process.
Despite facing some legal and political disputes from internal factions, the party leadership has insisted that the convention will proceed as planned, emphasizing adherence to the rule of law and judicial pronouncements. The decision to hold the convention in Ibadan, a city rich in political history, is also strategic, signaling the party’s intent to galvanize support from the influential South West region.
Governor Fintiri, while accepting the role as NCOC Chairman, had earlier pledged to deliver “the most credible, fair, and transparent convention in the history of the PDP,” a promise he is expected to fulfill this weekend as delegates from across the nation converge on Ibadan to choose their new leaders. The successful outcome of the event is considered vital to the PDP’s capacity to present a unified and formidable challenge in the next electoral cycle.
