Peter Obi Blasts Tinubu Over Failed Power Promises; Claims President Fled Jos Visit After Only 10 Minutes Due to ‘No Light’ at Airport

Peter Obi has “flipped the script” on the President’s recent condolence visit to Plateau State, turning a moment of national mourning into a fierce debate over accountability. The former Anambra Governor took to social media to remind Nigerians of a specific 2023 campaign pledge. “The President himself gave us the benchmark,” Obi stated. “He said if he fails on power, we should not return him for a second term. Today, the results are in, and the lights are still out.”

The “Solution” to Nigeria’s energy crisis seems further away than ever, according to Obi, who highlighted a controversial moment from the President’s Thursday visit to Jos. He alleged that President Tinubu cut his visit to the grieving community short, reportedly telling officials, “You have no light here, I fly out in ten minutes.” Obi slammed the remark as a “lack of trust and character,” questioning how a leader can expect citizens to pay “voodoo electricity bills” for a service the leader himself cannot tolerate for even a few minutes.

This “Tsunami” of criticism comes at a sensitive time for the administration. While the government has recently approved a ₦3.3 trillion plan to clear power sector debts, Obi argues that the “Renewed Hope” agenda has so far only resulted in “higher tariffs and lower output.” He noted that Nigeria’s power generation has struggled to stay above 4,000MW, leaving the country with the lowest per-person electricity usage rate in the world.

As the 2027 political race begins to heat up, Obi’s “Drill or Drop” challenge to the President has resonated with many Nigerians frustrated by the crumbling national grid. “At a time when our people are being slaughtered in their homes and sitting in the dark, we need leaders who stay and solve problems, not those who fly out because the air conditioning isn’t working,” Obi concluded. With fresh attacks reported in Jos South just 24 hours after the President’s departure, the pressure is mounting on the Villa to prove that their promises are more than just “hollow rhetoric.”
