Sanwo-Olu Celebrates Pa Fasoranti at 99, Hails His Enduring Legacy in Yorubaland and Beyond

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has paid glowing tribute to Afenifere leader and elder statesman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, as the nonagenarian clocks 99, describing him as a “pillar of wisdom” whose contributions have shaped the trajectory of the Yoruba nation and Nigeria at large.

Speaking during a celebratory visit to Pa Fasoranti’s residence in Akure, Ondo State, Sanwo-Olu praised the elder statesman’s lifelong commitment to justice, good governance, and the unity of the Yoruba people. He noted that Fasoranti’s leadership within the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has left an indelible mark on national discourse, especially in times when moral clarity and principled leadership were most needed.

“Papa Fasoranti is not just a leader to the Yoruba; he is a conscience to Nigeria,” Sanwo-Olu said. “His wisdom, courage, and unwavering principles have inspired generations of leaders. Reaching 99 years is not just a personal milestone it’s a national celebration of integrity, vision, and service.”

The visit was marked by heartfelt moments as family members, Afenifere members, and community leaders joined in celebrating a man many consider one of the last standing icons of Nigeria’s first republic values. Sanwo-Olu described the nonagenarian as a bridge between generations, noting that his words continue to influence policy, dialogue, and leadership decisions across the country.

Fasoranti, a former school principal and long-time advocate for restructuring and true federalism, thanked the governor for the gesture and reaffirmed his hope for a united, equitable Nigeria.

As the revered statesman approaches a century, tributes have been pouring in from leaders across political and ethnic divides, recognizing his calm but firm voice in Nigeria’s often turbulent political landscape.
