Security: Bauchi Police Bust Gang for Motorcycle Theft and Drug Trafficking
The Bauchi State Police Command has recorded a major success in its fight against crime, arresting five suspects involved in a range of criminal activities, from motorcycle theft to cannabis trafficking. The arrests, which were made in separate operations, were announced by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Wakil, in a public statement on Thursday.
Wakil revealed that the first breakthrough came from a tip-off about a specialized motorcycle theft syndicate operating in the Bakaro Area of Bauchi. A team of detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division, CSP Musa Alhaji Hassan, launched a meticulous investigation based on intelligence. The operation led to the arrest of two suspects, Abdulhamid Auwal (20) and Aliyu Rabiu (20), both residents of the Bakaro area. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to conspiring with three others to break into a residence and steal a Bajaj motorcycle. They admitted to dismantling the stolen motorcycle and selling it off, confirming the police’s suspicions about a network of criminals.
In a separate, equally significant operation, operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad, led by Suleiman Tambuwal, apprehended three other suspects on August 23. The arrests were made at an incomplete building in the Asorock Mountain area of Wuntin Dada. The suspects—Hussaini Lawal (20), Baba Sadiq Ibrahim (18), and Wada Yusuf (21)—were caught distributing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.
During their confession, one of the suspects, Hussaini Lawal, admitted to being a cannabis trafficker for over a year and provided the names of his accomplices. Items recovered from the suspects included a half-block of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, six knives, two pairs of scissors, and lighters. The arrests highlight the ongoing efforts of the Bauchi Police Command to rid the state of criminal elements and maintain law and order.
The successful operations demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and the command’s commitment to collaborating with the public to ensure a safer environment. The suspects are currently undergoing further investigation, and the command has assured the public that they will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
