Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a commendable step toward national unity through the recent appointments of northerners into strategic federal government positions.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja, the Senate Chief Whip expressed satisfaction with the president’s recent wave of appointments, noting that the decision reflects a conscious effort to correct previous imbalances in regional representation across federal institutions. According to Ndume, the appointments are not just politically expedient, but also crucial for sustaining national cohesion and stability.
“I want to sincerely commend President Tinubu for listening to the yearnings of the people, especially from the northern region, who have long felt marginalized in terms of political representation,” Ndume said. “His recent appointments into critical sectors of government have restored hope and a sense of belonging to many who previously felt sidelined.”
Senator Ndume further stated that inclusive governance is not merely about equity but about reinforcing the unity of Nigeria’s diverse ethnic and regional components. He maintained that for democracy to thrive in a multicultural society like Nigeria, fair representation must remain a guiding principle in political appointments.
He added, “It’s not about giving one region dominance over another but about ensuring that every part of the country sees itself reflected in the federal structure. That’s what builds trust in government and strengthens the Nigerian project.”
The senator emphasised that the appointments would help address deep-rooted grievances in the North and reduce the perception of exclusion, which has historically contributed to political tension in the country.
Ndume also urged the new officials to meet expectations and fulfil their duties. He urged them to focus on performance, accountability, and transparency in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s administration.
The recent appointments, which include key roles in finance, defence, education, and infrastructure, have sparked both praise and debate across the country, with political analysts saying they reflect a more balanced and strategic approach by the president.
President Tinubu, who has consistently emphasised national unity and inclusive governance as pillars of his leadership, seems to be implementing these recent initiatives. Observers believe that such efforts could pave the way for improved cooperation between the federal government and regional stakeholders, especially in the face of Nigeria’s ongoing security and economic challenges.
Senator Ndume’s remarks come at a critical time as the administration continues to solidify its cabinet and shape the trajectory of governance for the remainder of its tenure.
