Six Arrested as Lagos Police Investigate Deadly Cult Clash
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists in connection with the gruesome murder of a 30-year-old man, Kamoru, popularly known as “Keeper,” during a recent cult clash in the Ebute Meta area of the state.
The arrests were made following an intelligence-led operation by detectives attached to the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The suspects were apprehended on July 17, 2025, after weeks of surveillance on the violent gang, which police say has been terrorizing residents of Ebute Meta and its surrounding communities.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development in a statement, identifying the arrested individuals as Raphael Ashim (30), Wasiu Kareem (33), Sadiq Olabisi (40), Olamilekan Oluwatosin (27), Olalekan Olugbodi (54), and Ibrahim Oladimeji (22). Hundeyin explained that the suspects were allegedly involved in a series of cult clashes that ultimately led to Kamoru being hacked and shot to death in broad daylight.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover their operational weapons,” Hundeyin said. He confirmed that the six suspects have been charged to court and are currently on remand, awaiting trial.
The crackdown on the cultists came barely a week after the command issued a strong warning to cult groups ahead of the annual “7/7 Cultism Day,” a date notorious for rival gang clashes. The police have since intensified their efforts, conducting raids in cultism hotbeds like Ikorodu, Mushin, and Bariga, where several other arrests were made and weapons recovered. The police have reiterated their commitment to making Lagos a safe environment for all residents and visitors, especially during periods known for cult-related violence.
