Supporting the Arts: Ecobank Collaborates with Artists to Host Major Exhibition
In a significant move to champion the arts, Ecobank Nigeria is preparing to open a landmark art exhibition that will celebrate the timeless creativity of Nigeria’s most revered visual artists. The exhibition, titled “Enduring Legacies: A Collector’s Tribute to Masters,” is scheduled to run from Saturday, August 30 to Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Ecobank Pan African Centre on Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to a statement from the bank, the exhibition is a heartfelt tribute to the masters of Nigerian art, showcasing a collection of seminal works that have helped to define Nigeria’s visual identity. The show, which is curated by art historian Adekepemi Aderemi, brings together rare pieces from a private collection owned by KrabHouse, providing a unique opportunity for the public to engage with works that have been largely out of view until now.
Among the featured artists are legendary names who have shaped Nigeria’s art history, including Bruce Onobrakpeya, Twins Seven Seven, Kolade Oshinowo, Muraino Oyelami, Moses Unokwah, Jimoh Buraimoh, Rufus Ogundele, and Tola Wewe. The curator noted that the initiative is about “reconnecting with the visionary minds who laid the foundation for Nigeria’s vibrant visual culture.”
The Head of Corporate Communications at Ecobank Nigeria, Austen Osokpor, emphasized that the exhibition reaffirms the bank’s long-standing commitment to promoting African creativity and safeguarding the cultural legacy of the continent. “We are not just a bank; we are a patron of African excellence, an institution that proudly supports platforms that honour the continent’s rich artistic heritage,” Osokpor stated. He added that the exhibition celebrates the transformative power of art to preserve heritage, foster identity, and inspire future generations.
This is not the first time Ecobank has engaged with the creative community. The bank has a history of supporting exhibitions and cultural initiatives, including the “Adire Lagos Exhibition” and the “+234 Art Fair,” aimed at providing a platform for both established and emerging artists and contributing to the growth of Nigeria’s creative economy. The “Enduring Legacies” exhibition promises to be a powerful and enriching experience for art lovers, collectors, and the general public, providing a rare glimpse into the masterpieces that have shaped the nation’s artistic soul.
