Troops Nab 53 Suspects and Extremists in Massive Plateau State Raid; Stolen Cattle Recovered and Returned to Owners
Security forces in Plateau State have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against crime, with the arrest of 53 suspects in a single sweep. On Friday, March 20, 2026, the Nigerian Army confirmed that its troops, working under Operation Safe Haven, conducted several raids targeting “high-interest” criminals and members of extremist groups.
The operations, which took place across various local government areas, are part of a wider plan to “flush out” those responsible for recent kidnappings and attacks in the region. Beyond the arrests, the troops showed their commitment to local farmers by recovering four cattle that had been stolen from the Lugere community. The animals were handed back to their owner immediately, bringing a small bit of justice to the victims of rustling.
The situation in the North-Central remains a top priority for the military. While the 53 suspects are being questioned, troops are also keeping a close eye on the borders between Plateau, Taraba, and Benue to stop communal clashes from spreading. Just yesterday, soldiers intervened in a violent confrontation in the Guma area, saving a civilian who had been caught in the crossfire.
Major General EF Oyinlola, who leads the 3 Division, praised the “professionalism and resilience” of the soldiers. He reminded the public that the military is working 24/7 to ensure that Plateau remains a safe place for everyone, especially as the Sallah holidays approach.
