Umahi Calls Benue Flyover ‘Tinubu’s Gift’ to Governor Alia

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has officially flagged off the construction of a flyover at the Wurukum Roundabout in Makurdi, Benue State, describing the project as a personal “gift” from President Bola Tinubu to Governor Hyacinth Alia. Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on behalf of the president, Umahi explained that the flyover was never in the initial budget for the larger road project but was added as a special gesture to the Benue governor.

The flyover is a major component of the second phase of a $950 million dual carriageway project that will span 520 kilometers from Makurdi to Ninth Mile in Enugu State. The project, funded by the China Exim Bank, is hailed as one of the largest infrastructure legacy projects of the current administration.

Umahi praised Governor Alia for his proactive efforts on federal roads within the state, stating that the project is a reward for his commitment to the people of Benue. “This flyover was never in the plan and budget for this road. But it is a gift from Mr. President to Governor Hyacinth Alia,” the minister said.

In his remarks, Governor Alia described the project as a “game changer” that will revolutionize transportation and boost economic activities in the state and the entire region. He thanked President Tinubu for his love and demonstrated commitment to the development of Benue State.
