UNIJOS Sets April 13 for Exam Resumption After Security Scare; Management Beefs Up Campus Patrols Following Angwan Rukuba Attack

Students of the University of Jos can finally prepare for their final papers as the institution has fixed Monday, April 13, 2026, for the continuation of the first-semester examinations. The decision, “flipping the script” on a week of uncertainty, was reached during a crucial management meeting on Friday, April 3, where the university reviewed the security situation in Plateau State.

The “Solution” to the safety concerns that grounded academic activities on March 30 involved an “elongated Easter break,” which allowed students to move away from the high-tension Angwan Rukuba area where recent killings took place. According to a statement by the Deputy Registrar of Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, the university is now confident that with the “Renewed Hope” security measures and increased patrol teams, the campus environment is safe for the conclusion of the semester.

While the university will reopen for general administrative duties on April 7, the management decided to delay the exams by an extra week to ensure all students including those who traveled across the country have sufficient time to return to Jos. The first set of papers to be written on the 13th will be those that were abruptly postponed during the height of the crisis last Monday.

University authorities have also issued a stern warning to students to remain vigilant and report any “strange faces” or suspicious movements to the Security Division immediately. As Jos begins to heal from the weekend violence, the resumption of exams at UNIJOS is being seen as a major step toward restoring normalcy in the Plateau State capital.
