University Management Reassures Students and Staff After Fire Incident at Radio Studio

The management of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State has called for calm after a fire incident at the university’s radio studio. The blaze, which occurred on Monday morning, has raised concerns about campus safety, prompting the university to issue a statement to reassure its community.

According to the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, the fire was caused by an electrical surge from the air-conditioning unit in the radio studio. Firefighters were swiftly deployed to the scene and managed to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the campus. Akinwande confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the incident.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Atoyebi, corroborated the fire service’s report, emphasizing that the situation was not as severe as initial reports had suggested. “The radio station is a training station and not for commercial purposes,” he said. “All the equipment is intact, just a few wires were affected, and we have fixed everything, and we are almost back on air.” Atoyebi’s statement aimed to counter earlier reports that claimed equipment worth millions of naira was lost in the inferno.

The PRO also noted that the fire posed no immediate threat to student safety as the incident occurred while the university was on holiday. “It’s not a major thing that can cause panic because the scene is far from residential buildings and the school is on holiday, so there are no students around,” Atoyebi said.

The university’s management urged students, staff, and parents to remain calm, assuring them that measures have been put in place to prevent future occurrences.
