Vice President Shettima Charges Young Islamic Scholars to Emulate Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s Legacy of Tolerance and Moderate Interpretation

Vice President Kashim Shettima today, Friday, November 28, 2025, delivered a strong message to the nation’s rising generation of Islamic scholars, urging them to diligently uphold the towering legacy of tolerance and moderate religious interpretation exemplified by the esteemed cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.

The Vice President made the call in Abuja during the formal launch of the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation (SDUBF) and the public presentation of a new book authored by the revered Islamic scholar. Shettima described the nonagenarian leader of the Tijjaniyya Movement as a beacon of peaceful coexistence, stating that his life had been a profound lesson in moderation and inter-faith amity.

The Vice President lamented the destructive impact of extremism and radicalisation on society and unequivocally charged the younger scholars in attendance to use Sheikh Bauchi’s teachings and jurisprudence as a definitive blueprint for combating the distortion of Islam’s peaceful message.

He noted that the Tinubu administration is fully committed to promoting religious freedom and protecting all faiths across the federation, confirming that the government shares the cleric’s foundational vision of a united and peaceful Nigeria. The event concluded with the formal unveiling of the book, which captures the Sheikh’s moderate views and his lifelong pursuit of harmony among different religious and ethnic groups in the country.
