“90% of Nigerian Pastors Won’t Get Away with This Abroad” – Tacha Slams Clerics’ Conduct, Demands Accountability

Controversial UK-based Nigerian reality star, Natasha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has ignited a fresh debate about the conduct of Christian clerics in Nigeria, asserting that the actions of “90 per cent of Nigerian pastors” would not be tolerated or go unpunished in other countries. Her strong remarks come amidst growing public scrutiny over the behavior of some religious leaders and the perceived lack of accountability within the Nigerian religious sphere.

Tacha’s comments were primarily made in reaction to a viral video involving the Senior Pastor of the House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, who faced public criticism after a clip showed him allegedly holding a “pistol-like object” and confronting a car spotter filming his vehicle. While Pastor Adefarasin later clarified that the object was not a firearm and that the car spotter was aggressive, Tacha vehemently rejected this explanation, accusing the pastor of “gaslighting” the public.

In a video message shared via her X handle on Monday, June 9, 2025, Tacha insisted that “Everybody saw the video. We all saw the video. And from the video, we can tell who the aggressor was.” She highlighted that the car spotter appeared to be hailing the pastor, questioning the claim of aggression.

“In case you have forgotten, this pastor stopped his car, wined down, held an object that looks like a firearm and told this boy, ‘Don’t do that, don’t do that…’ There are so many car spotters all around the world. I don’t see what that boy was doing wrong. I don’t see how he was being aggressive,” Tacha stated.

She further expressed her dismay at the “gullible congregation that was clapping and cheering,” questioning if they had “selective blindness.” Tacha then delivered her scathing indictment of Nigerian pastors, stating, “Let me make this very clear, 90 per cent of our Nigerian Pastors will not get away with what they do in Nigeria outside Nigeria. The kind of Christianity they practice, if they try it anywhere outside Nigeria their church will close down within a year.”

To emphasize her point, Tacha drew a comparison, noting that if a prominent political figure like Seyi Tinubu or Governor Nyesom Wike or his son had exhibited similar behavior, “one part of Twitter would be burning by now and it will burn for one week.” She criticized the “selective hypocrisy” evident when pastors are involved. She also referenced an earlier alleged incident where the same pastor reportedly stepped out of his car to smash the windscreen of a bus, further questioning the label of “aggressive” being applied to the content creator.

Tacha, a former Big Brother Naija housemate known for her outspokenness, recently relocated to the United Kingdom, citing that she had “conquered” the Nigerian market. Her latest remarks have resonated with a segment of the public who have long called for greater transparency and ethical conduct from religious leaders in Nigeria, highlighting a growing demand for accountability regardless of social or religious standing.
